You read a standard passage and we keep it. At the end of the course you compare yourself with that very recording.

Vowels: long and short

The pairs people trip over most: ship/sheep, cat/cart, full/fool. Where the tongue goes — not "try it again".

The vanished R and the links

The signature of RP: the non-rhotic R, the linking R, the glottal stop. This is where a Ukrainian accent gives itself away most.

Stress and rhythm

English runs on stressed syllables. You learn to reduce the unstressed ones, so a sentence stops sounding like it is being spelled out.

The melody of a question, a polite request, a doubt. What makes speech sound British even when the sounds are not perfect.
